艾德思：哥大工程学院院长美中关系不会阻碍我们对开放学术交流的承诺



亲爱的哥伦比亚大学工程学院全体师生,

Dear Columbia Engineering Community,

近几个月来,我们从许多新闻中感觉到美中关系因贸易/知识产权/甚至学术活动而日渐紧张.这些新闻制造出的不安可能会对我们教员/科研人员和学生们所珍视 的哥 大的开放知识型学术交流造成伤害.

In recent months we have seen news reports of heightened tensions between the United States and China with regard to trade, intellectual property, and even academic activities, creating an atmosphere that has the potential to undermine the open intellectual academic exchange so valued among our university community of faculty, researchers, and students.

在这样的时刻,哥大工程学院重申我们的宗旨,并希望全体师生省察其重要意义: 我们将为所有学生/教员/科研人员和行政人员维护一个开放/包容的校园环境.

It is important for each of us in Columbia Engineering to reflect on the importance of our commitment to maintaining an open and welcoming community for all students, faculty, researchers, and administrative staff.

作为一所工程和应用科学学院,我们十分幸运能够从全美/从全世界吸引拥有多元背景的学生和教员.

As a School of Engineering and Applied Science, we are fortunate to attract students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, from across the country, and from around the world.

It is a great benefit to be able to gather engineers and SCIentists of so many different perspectives and talents – all with a commitment to learning, a focus on pushing the frontiers of knowledge and discovery, and a passion for translating our work to impact humanity.

Let me also reassure you that the appropriate policies and procedures are in place to ensure the highest level of research integrity, to comply with U.S. government regulations, and to protect the intellectual property and research discoveries of our faculty and students.

在哥大工程学院乃至整个哥伦比亚大学里, 所有的研究均是公开透明的,没有任何保密研究项目.

Moreover, all research is open and transparent, with no classified research projects undertaken at Columbia Engineering and Columbia University.

我为我们多元的社群感到骄傲,我也想再次强调, 我们每一个人都有义务去维护开放的校园环境.

I am proud of our diverse community, and wish to reinforce our collective commitment to maintaining an open and collegial environment.
